CCT! Kids perform
“The Bears of Chatham”
July 3, 2006
Chatham County Together! youth and Nita Anglin, local writer/composer,
teamed up for Anglin's play "The Bears of Chatham."
Anglin generously donated 6 weeks of her time as Chatham Together
kids rehearsed and honed their musical and theatrical talents.
The play was performed at the Pittsboro Presbyterian church prior
to the CCT! Annual board meeting on June 13th.
The play, written and directed by Anglin, is a spoof on Goldilocks
and the Three Bears. The Bears humorously but pointedly share their
concerns through song and dance at the threat of habitat destruction
in Chatham County.
The cast performed an ethereal and impressive version of the classic
symphonic masterpiece Pachelbel’s Canon with Anglin’s
“Boomer” instruments. Boomers are hand-painted musical
contra-bass instruments made from PVC pipe and cut to standard pitch.
An enthusiastic crowd gave the performance a standing ovation.
Deanna Jones, from the Chatham County Work First Unit, provided
the exquisite face painting for the Bears. Roy Barnes, youth advocate
for CCT!, Jodi York, Ann and Max Drake (all CCT! volunteers) helped
with the production as well.
